Choi Soo-Yeon

Park So-Jung
Abstract
Recently, the concept of trauma has also been widely applied when comparing emotionally hurtful life events by breaking down individual psychological boundaries. From this perspective, the purpose of this research is to examine the experiences and the significance of the experiences of a woman who have experienced divorce, in the process of art therapy designed for the posttraumatic growth. A 41-year-old woman participated for the study, who had an agreed divorce after about 15 years of marriage. A total of 12 art therapy programs from July 16 to August 20, 2020, were conducted based on Calhoun and Tedeschi¡¯s ¡®theory of posttraumatic growth model¡¯ and Rich¡¯s conceptual divorce development model. As a result of analyzing the collected data, a total of three main themes and ten subthemes were derived. The three themes are ¡®facing and recognizing emotions experienced by divorce¡¯, ¡®discovering the meaning of divorce for oneself¡¯, ¡®embracing the past and envisioning a positive future by gaining confidence to live on one¡¯s own¡¯. This study showed that art therapy designed for the posttraumatic growth of women allowed the expression and relief of negative emotions experienced in the divorce process, and promoted the rebuilding mentality and redefining life through self-acceptance.
